Flemish Chamber of Engineers (VIK)

About VIK

The Flemish Chamber of EngineersThe Flemish Chamber of Engineers is a nonprofit service organization and is founded half a century ago by and for industrial engineers. His members are graduates of the University Colleges which are associated with a university in the Flanders. The Flanders is the Dutch speaking region in the North of Belgium. The Chamber aims to highlight the status of the engineering profession and to expand the public awareness, understanding and appreciation of the role and value of engineers in improving the quality of life. VIK serves society and is a source of advice and guidance on the interests that relate engineering and technology to the human environment.

The Chamber has two departments:

  • the professional interests department which protects the value and the academic level of our Masters degree
  • and its educational department that contributes to the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for the broader engineering community and for the VIK members in particular.

The Flemish Chamber of Engineers offers advice on career opportunities, remuneration, employment, legal questions and keeps their members up to date with all developments affecting the profession. The VIK is a recognized partner in the negotiations between the government, universities, university colleges and industry. The publications of the Chamber include several monthly magazines as well as a register of engineers and an active website which you are visiting now.

VIK and CPD

The world of technology is developing more rapidly than ever before. Whether you're a recent graduate, in the middle of your career, or even counting the months until retirement, you must have an aggressive plan to stay on top of current technologies. Lifelong learning is a critical aspect of every engineer's career and is one of the Flemish Chamber of Engineers' most important missions. The Chamber has established a modern complex, where its own professional training institute is situated. It is ISO 9001 version 2000 certified and specialists from industry, management and education present there to their audience the latest technological developments. New and emerging technologies will enable better products that will replace previous ones. Engineers must continually innovate to drive the never ending flow of new products, services and processes.

It's important one makes time to sharpen one's skills and knowledge so one is qualified to contribute to new initiatives in the future. Engineers must establish career paths and ensure that their technical competencies grow to meet the challenges of rapidly changing technologies.

VIK Education has more than 35 years experience in continuous education and offers a full array of opportunities including courses, seminars and conferences. New courses have been designed to meet both demand from individuals and the needs of industry. The courses focus on the changing nature of the industry, the evolving role of the engineer and increasingly important business management issues.

Subjects must be continually at the technological forefront and participants come from all industries, branches and specialities of the engineering community.
